Free & Low-Cost Medication Assistance Resources for NC Residents
Accessing medications shouldn’t have to be another barrier to receiving the care you need.
For individuals and families who are uninsured or experiencing difficulty paying for prescriptions, several medication assistance programs are available throughout North Carolina.
Anasa Home Health is sharing these resources to help individuals, caregivers, and families connect with programs that may be able to provide free or low-cost medications and pharmacy support.
💊 NC MedAssist Free Pharmacy Program
NC MedAssist provides free prescription medications to eligible North Carolina residents who meet program requirements.
The program is based in Charlotte and offers medication assistance through mail-order services, making it an important resource for eligible residents across North Carolina.

Alliance Health provides information about medication assistance programs available throughout its service area.
Additional resources are available specifically for uninsured individuals who need substance use disorder (SUD) medications, including:

Eligibility for these programs is limited to uninsured individuals who reside in one of Alliance Health's seven catchment-area counties:

In addition to statewide and Alliance Health resources, several counties offer medication assistance programs for eligible uninsured residents.
Cumberland County
The Cumberland County Medication Assistance Program (CCMAP) provides access to medications listed on its formulary for eligible individuals.
Harnett County
Harnett County residents may also access medication assistance through the CCMAP formulary.
Durham County
Durham County offers an Indigent Pharmacy Program and Medication Assistance Program (MAP) formulary.
The available resources include certain medications used in substance use disorder treatment, including sublingual buprenorphine and oral naltrexone.

Wake County
Wake County offers a Pharmacy Medication and Lab Formulary for eligible residents.
Important: Sublingual buprenorphine is available free of charge and may be picked up at regional sites, including Zebulon and Wake Forest, upon patient request.
